Biosphere Keos is a comprehensive creative project of KEOS CULTURE which is implemented by the Municipality of Kea. Its main activity is the organization and curation of exhibits on the cultural and natural heritage of the island.

Ο χάρτης ένα εκπληκτικό δημιούργημα της ανθρώπινης σκέψης είναι άρρηκτα συνδεδεμένος με την ιστορία του ανθρώπινου πολιτισμού, της τεχνολογίας, των επιστημών αλλά και της τέχνης. Η έκθεση θα μας ταξιδέψει στον κόσμο της χαρτογραφίας μέσα από το νησί μας στο πέρασμα του χρόνου. Το κοινό θα περιηγηθεί μέσα από τους χάρτες και θα γνωρίσει τα τοπωνύμια, τις θάλασσες και τις παραλίες, τους οικισμούς, την μορφολογία του νησιού, τα μνημεία, τις πηγές, τα μονοπάτια, τα ξωκλήσια και τους ναούς. Το εκθεσιακό υλικό περιλαμβάνει χάρτες ιστορικούς, ναυτικούς, τουριστικούς, πεζοπορικούς, οικισμών αλλά και σπάνιους χάρτες του 16ου , 17ου και 18ου αιώνα που μας παραχωρήθηκαν ψηφιακά από ιδιωτικές και δημόσιες συλλογές.

From travelogues to GIS
The creation of maps is an extraordinary achievement of human intelligence and goes hand in hand with the history of human civilisation, technology, sciences and art. Visitors of the exhibition will get an insight of the world of cartography through the various stages of our island’s history and maps will allow them to travel and find out about the island’s place names, its seas and beaches, settlements, topography, monuments, springs, trails, chapels and temples. The exhibition comprises historical maps and nautical charts, tourist and trail maps, maps of the island’s settlements and rare maps that date back to the 16th, the 17th and the 18th century that were made available in digital format by private and public collections.
